Information About Giving to Chatham Day School
When a student enrolls at Chatham Day School, it is important for parents to understand the role that fundraising plays in the finances of the school. We are an independent school that does not receive financial support from local taxes or from the state or federal government. As in most independent schools, Chatham Day School charges tuition that covers approximately 75-80% of the cost of educating each student. Therefore, tuition income is less than the school’s expenses so that every student is the beneficiary of an “implied scholarship”.
To help bridge the gap between tuition revenue and operating expenses, Chatham Day School depends on the Annual Fund, the annual gala, and income from other sources, such as grants and special events. All of our fundraising programs contribute toward the operating budget for expenses such as faculty salaries and benefits, maintaining and improving the campus, the costs of educational materials, and the financial assistance program.
All gifts to Chatham Day School are tax deductible to the full extent permitted by law.
